Community Involvement
Suski Chevrolet is proud to support the Birch Run community through various programs dedicated to helping children, keeping our community clean, and funding important medical research. Here’s a look at some of the programs in which we’re proud to participate!
Michigan Adopt-A-Highway
The Michigan Adopt-a-Highway program helps keep Michigan beautiful. Participants adopt a stretch of highway to keep clean for a period of two years and periodically go pick up litter around the area. Local businesses, such as Suski Chevrolet, can also sponsor a highway, paying for professional litter removal services to keep the area clean.
Toys for Tots
Toys for Tots is devoted to making Christmas brighter for children whose parents can’t afford to buy them presents. Toys for Tots collects donated toys from the community and businesses, while also educating communities about the organization and the work they do to aid less-fortunate families. In business for over 70 years, Toys for Tots has distributed over 560 million toys to date.
Coats for Kids
Not unlike Toys for Tots, Coats for Kids is an organization that helps children in need by ensuring that no child gets left out in the cold. Coats for Kids takes requests from October through March and distributes only new winter coats, along with gloves and hats whenever possible. With how cold our winters get, Birch Run needs services like Coats for Kids, which helps hundreds of thousands of children nationwide every year.
Birch Run Honor Roll
Suski Chevrolet holds a pizza party at the end of each trimester for students at Birch Run Schools who were considered “At Risk” of not passing and who brought their grades up from the previous trimester. Suski Chevrolet has sponsored the Birch Run Honor Roll pizza party for seven years now, and it’s proven to be a roaring success every year.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer by the American Cancer Society is an organization that funds research and education on breast cancer, patient support, and many other services. Through events such as charity walks, MSABC has donated tens of millions of dollars to research, provided millions of free rides to and from treatment, and helped countless patients better understand their diagnosis. Volunteers can participate in all kinds of ways, from leading a fundraising team to joining a charity walk to making a cash donation.
Big Brothers, Big Sisters
In operation since 1904, Big Brothers, Big Sisters is one of the oldest charitable organizations in the country. This massive mentoring network connects adult volunteers with children and teens to help kids reach their full potential. Bigs help their Littles avoid risky behaviors, give them strategies to be more successful in school, and build their confidence to create a more successful future. BBBS has special dedicated programs for children with incarcerated parents, children of military families, and more.
Cell Phones for Soldiers
Started by two teen siblings in 2004, Cell Phones for Soldiers collects donations to let soldiers who are stationed overseas talk to their families back home without racking up huge cell phone bills. Cell Phones for Soldiers has provided more than 300 million minutes of talk time since its inception, mailed millions of calling cards, and recycled 15 million cell phones. The organization has also branched out to providing emergency funding to veterans and their families.
Old Newsboys Goodfellow Association
The Old Newsboys Goodfellow Association is another program that helps children in need by getting them new clothing, as well as delivering food baskets to families going through food insecurity. The Newsboys also make charitable donations to other organizations helping kids and even award college scholarships to low-income students who wouldn’t be able to attend college otherwise.
